I find charcoal / charcoal pastel is great for tonal depth and dynamic, gestural mark-making
I gravitated to Conté early on in the life-drawing room; it aided the transition from relying on line to describe form to begin carving with light instead
This more physical articulation of the medium lends itself well to translating a drawing to the canvas; the gestures are present in my painting (both traditional and digital)
With the drawings generated for the Rachel's piece I experimented with panelling sheets together to maintain a narrative flow, allowing moments to overlap and merge
